India saw a significant drop in daily Covid-19 infections on May 10 morning with 3.66 lakh fresh cases & 3,754 deaths logged in the last 24 hours. This comes after the country recorded over 4 lakh cases for four straight days & 4,000 deaths for two consecutive days. In the last 24 hours, 14,74,606 samples were tested, as per the Health Ministry data, nearly 4 lakh samples fewer than 18,65,428 samples tested in the previous 24 hours. In Maharashtra, the state with highest caseload, daily infections dropped below 50,000 for the first time in a month. Faced with criticism over the pricing of vaccines, the government has defended its policy in the Supreme Court. Urging against “judicial interference”, the centre has warned that “overzealous, though well-meaning, intervention may lead to unforeseen and unintended consequences.” Vaccination is the only solution to India’s Covid-19 crisis, the United States’ top health expert Anthony Fauci has said. The central government on May 9 issued an advisory on mucormycosis, a fungal infection being found in Covid-19 patients with uncontrolled diabetes & prolonged intensive care unit (ICU) stay.
